Safety

There’s nothing more important to us, but it is a two-way street and you participate at your own risk.

What we’ll do

But, walking and jogging are relatively safe activities and in order to keep you safe club volunteers will try to:

  • ensure that nobody is left behind.
  • use easy to follow, safe routes that are agreed at the start of the walk or run.

You should

  • Wear bright, reflective clothing in winter. We can loan bibs if you don’t own any.
  • look out for yourself and your fellow club members. If anyone feels unwell at any stage, this should be brought to the attention of the other club members, some of whom carry mobiles or will be able to fetch help.
  • Be careful on the road, especially where pavements are narrow. If there are no pavements, then run facing the oncoming traffic. Try to run in single file if at all possible.
  • Don’t use headphones as they will reduce your ability to hear possible risks.
  • Run as a group and try to avoid running alone if you are a woman.
  • Dress appropriately for the conditions to avoid sunburn or mitigate the effects of cold or damp. Use sunscreen if you’re likely to be out for a long time in hot weather
  • Drink water regularly, take a bottle or plan your route for water stops. De-hydration is not good for you.

Be seen

In the dark winter months it is essential that you ware some high visibility clothing to minimise the risk of any accidents. Your safety is our highest priority. If you don’t have any suitable clothing, then we can provide you with high-vis bibs that will make you difficult to ignore. Remember you will also be out with a crowd of other florescent pals as well!
