Racing

You may not have thought about taking part in races, especially if you’re new to running. But it can be a lot of fun to be part of a team, but many events allow you to enter as an individual. The club organises and hosts it’s own race, the 10 mile multi-terrain. In addition, club members regularly take part in cross country races, various road and other races and large organised events like the London Marathon, Welsh Castles Relay etc.

Cross country

The Gwent cross country league comprises of 5 races usually located at Bridgend, Cardiff, Bath, Swansea, and Newport. Teams from running clubs and universities from all over the region compete to improve their standing in the league tables. There is a nice atmosphere at these gatherings, as is frequently the case at most running events. Consider giving it a try at least once.

Welsh Castles Relay

This is a prestigious team event, organised by Les Croupiers Running Club in Cardiff and attracting teams from across the whole of the UK. Teams travel from North to South Wales over two days, on scenic routes that pass, well, a lot of castles. Definitely an unforgettable experience, especially for those that have some of those particularly hilly stages!

Marathons

This is a reason why some people first join a running club. Clubs can provide a lot of useful help and support if you are considering the challenge of a marathon. A lot of the membership have done them, know the training and the problems that can arise. You’ll always get plenty of good advice if you want it. You may be thinking of just doing one to see if you can do it, but you might find yourself coming back for more! Club members have been to various marathons, including Cardiff, Dublin, New York, London and several others.

We are a Flora London Marathon Running Club Partner, so why not get your training off to the right start with us!

Other races

There are all sorts of races that individuals can enter, even in the local area. These range from 5k to 20 milers. Some races are very small and difficult to hear about and run to raise money for charities e.g. Gower Lighthouse 10k (nice and well organised). Others can be prestigious, attracting thousands of runners from all over the UK e.g. Swansea 10k. It’s up to you, do as little or much as you like.
