George leads Road Runners home

Members of Sospan Road Runners again did Llanelli proud in this year’s Flora London Marathon, with exceptional times and personal achievement evident in all performances.

In changeable weather conditions that both helped and hindered runners in equal measure, the club was able to field nine members amongst the 35,000 entrants. Leading the club home was Martin George with an outstanding personal best time of 2 hours, 54 minutes and 43 seconds. A personal best was also achieved by Martin Hooper, shaving almost 9 minutes off his previous fastest with a finish of 3 hours, 22minutes and 56 seconds. The club’s only female representative this year, Joanne Brewster, ran a debut London marathon to be proud of in 4 hours, 29 minutes and 24 seconds, crossing the line to finish near the top 4000 in the female category.

Sospan Road Runners men’s club captain Andrew Thomas summed up the club’s pride in its runners successful performances; “Yet again the club’s representatives have come to London and shown their determination in completing the course. All of us can take great pride in our finishing times and effort in what was a fantastic overall team performance”.
